When it comes to insurance, there are certain kinds of policy that you simple have to have. Car insurance is very firmly in that camp – not only is it incredibly important to protect yourself against all the little bumps and scrapes that can befall you while you’re on the road, it’s a legal requirement in the UK to have a valid car insurance policy.
However, car insurance policies can be pricey. Your age, your job, where you live, whether you have a drive or a garage – all are things that influence how much you’re likely to pay for car insurance. Some of those things you can’t change, but if you’re changing cars or you’re about to get on the road for the first time then you’re faced with one important decision that’ll have a huge impact on your insurance premiums – the car itself!
With that in mind, we’ve compiled the 10 cheapest cars to insure in 2016. These little beauties are guaranteed to get you from A to B – and they won’t break the bank while they do it!

2) Hyundai i10 1.0
This nippy little number has come a long way from it’s very basic beginnings. The newest model is longer and wider and gives some big-car benefits in a small-car package. With a 65bhp model and an 87bhp model available, driving an i10 isn’t dissimilar to driving a big go-kart – with the price tag to match!
3) Peugeot Partner
Peugeot have a proud history of making affordable, practical and cheap-to-insure cars and the Partner is no exception. With oodles of space to fit in kids, dogs and shopping bags galore, the Partner still qualifies for group 2 insurance, making it just about the most space you can get for your money.
4) Renault Twingo
French car manufacturers do plenty of things well – and one of them is making great small cars that don’t cost the earth. Renault’s Twingo is no exception, with a rear-mounted engine it handles exceptionally well at low speeds, is hugely economical and won’t break the bank when it comes to insurance.
